News 2005

The following are news entries made in 2005.

December 2005 - New living room floor!

I had wanted to replace the downstairs rug since the day I moved in. I was certain that the gray colored carpet would be difficult to keep clean. After months of research into hardwood and laminate flooring I decided to go with the Quick Step brand laminate floor. The floor has a unique beveling design that gives it a realistic look. Each plank is one individual design as opposed to holding a number of smaller prints. The side of each plank has a cut bevel look, so when the planks lay side by side they have a slight indent on the side the same as wood planks. I went with a dark cherry color.

October 2005 - Late entry!

October has been a busy month for me in many ways. I'm dealing with the contractors of the home I bought, as they're to fix an expanding floor in the master bathroom! Apparently the heat from the shower has gotten beyond some sort of containment, and made its way to the floor immediately around it, causing it to expand in a bubble type form.

Other news is that I'm looking into hardwood or laminate flooring downstairs, so I don't have to deal with trying to keep a light gray colored carpet clean.

Also, I've been busy collecting Star Wars items from this past movie. And with the recent release of the movie on home DVD, I've had the opportunity to get some collectible items. Youčll need to read the Blog for more info.

Find out about how I began collecting Star Wars items from this last movie. Read and leave messages. I promise, the Blog is up and running fulltime!

Site changes in October

I will be making some small site changes in October. First off, the site themes that you can select from will become more colorful. Second, the search tool will either become an internet search tool, or it'll be removed. That's it for now!

August 2005 - The crowning jewel.

I had to turn to eBay in order to get the elusive Lava Darth Vader figure for my Star Wars Revenge of the Sith figure collection. I was fortunate enough to find an auction that had the Buy-It-Now feature and it had just begun. The asking price was $40 and up for auction was the Lava Vader and a Holographic Yoda, Toys R Us collectable. I had to buy the figure on-line because it was made available in very limited quantities at Target months before I began collecting. Click on the thumbnail picture of the figure above for a closer look at it.

I learned to never use the wrong soap in your dishwasher. What happened here was that I put handsoap in the dishwasher. I never use the dishwasher, but it's recommended that you run it at least every couple months, as you would the garbage disposal. Since I don't regularly use it, I didn't have the soap specific for the washer. And as you can see, the result was that the whole kitchen got washed.

July 2005 - The backyard is finished!

image

I decided to pave the backyard. Though it is pretty small, 27x17, I did not wish to tangle with weeds or cut grass. Mostly due to me having allergies, but also partly due to me being a bit lazy these days, I decided to go with the concrete. The backyard has three cut-outs were plants and such can grow. One cut-out, in the center against the fence, has been reserved for an apple tree that I will try to grow. Another is outside the living room window, and the other along the fence when you enter from the backyard gate.

June - Frank the collector!

image

In my twenties, working for a living on my own, I somehow managed to collect thousands of dollars worth of video games. Turn late twenties, early thirties, I realized that I had wasted a lot of time and money, and could have instead invested in an education. As the story goes I swore I would never collect games again. I sold every video game and made somewhere between 8-12k on eBay. I used the money to pay down bills and it paid for the majority of my college tuition. Having graduated some time ago now, I find myself somehow back collecting. Only this time I collect Godzilla and Star Wars figures!

What I have found most interesting is the number of people, young and old, who collect this stuff. Since June, when I started collecting Star Wars, I have met a handful of others who have given me tips and shown me the ropes. Apparently collecting Hot Wheels cars is big! Above is a picture of Luke and Hansolo, 2 of the 31 Burger King Star Wars collectables. And yes, I do have the whole set. no follow up link or photos

I am finally moved in, and can now turn my attention to other things. My townhome is the one with the garage door that is open. The next item of business is taking care of my kinda small backyard. Should I put in concrete, go all out with a garden, or a combination of both? no follow up link or photos
